China's Deng and Other Four Elected into IOC Athletes'Commission
China's table-tennis legend Deng Yaping and other four ex-athletes have been elected into the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Athletes' Commission in Lausanne Dec.3.
Sweden's cross country skier Thomas Gustafson, Cuba's volleyballer Mireya Hernandez, Algeria's track-and-field athlete Nourredine Moroelli, and Mozambique's track-and-field athlete Maria Mutolo completed the 19-member commission.
Eight athletes were elected during the Sydney Olympic Games.
Deng, 27, was the only table-tennis player with four Olympics golds. She won the women's single and double gold medals in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, and reigned the title in both events four years later in Atlanta.
