China to Accelerate Opening of Telecom Market

Vice-Premier Wu Bangguo said December 3 that China will further strengthen the construction of information infrastructure and speed up its pace in opening China's telecommunication market.

The Chinese mainland has scored tremendous achievements in the rapidly growing telecommunication industry over the past years and will continue to implement the strategy of revitalizing the nation through science and education, Wu said at the opening ceremony of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Telecom Asia 2000.

He urged more international communication and cooperation in telecommunication and information technology and stronger efforts to narrow the digital gap.

Wu arrived here Saturday for a four-day visit and to officiate at the opening ceremony of the ITU Telecom Asia 2000.
