Mexican President Swears His Cabinet In

Mexican President Vicente Fox swore in the members of his cabinet and outlined main lines for the next six years, local media reported Friday, December 1.

At a meeting with his closest collaborators and sympathizers in the National Auditorium, he announced the restructuring of the national security system and the elimination of the political espionage apparatus.

He asked the members of his cabinet, composed of 42 men and nine women, most of them businesspersons and executives from transnational firms, to abide by the principles of norms of ethics.

He said one of the principles is "the commitment towards common welfare and the understanding that the public service is a right of every Mexican."

He asked them to match their words with actions, keep honest and clean, and foster a culture of truth and confidence."

The cabinet members should not use their power for "personal benefits", he said.
