Central Government Has Not Interfered in HKSAR Affairs: Spokesperson

The central people's government has strictly abided by all the provisions of the Hong Kong Basic Law and has refrained from interfering in affairs within the high degree of autonomy enjoyed by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) since Hong Kong's return to China.

"This is a fact widely acknowledged by the international community and Hong Kong affairs are internal matter of China," said a spokesperson with the Commissioner of China's Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR Saturday, December 2.

"It is inappropriate for any foreign country to make irresponsible remarks and improper comments," the spokesperson said, when asked to comment on the November 29 report of the House of Commons of Britain which claimed that there have been a series of interventions by the central people's government in Hong Kong politics since Hong Kong's return.
