Yugoslavia Sticks to "One China" Policy: President

Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica reaffirmed December 1 that his country sticks to the "one China" policy, upholding that Taiwan is an inseparable part of Chinese territory and the Chinese government is the sole legitimate government representing the People's Republic of China.

Kostunica made the remarks while meeting with the new Chinese ambassador to Yugoslavia, Wen Xigui.

The president said the relations between Yugoslavia and China have set a model for state-to-state relationships in the world. Yugoslavia is ready to strengthen the traditional friendly relationship, he said.

The Yugoslav people will never forget the Chinese people's support at a time when Yugoslavia was suffering from international isolation and sanctions, especially when US-led NATO invaded the country, Kostunica said.

Yugoslavia values highly the stand of China, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, on protecting the integrity of Yugoslavia's sovereignty and territory.
