China Hosts International Insurance Symposium

An international insurance symposium is held from Thursday to Friday in Shanghai, the metropolis in east China.

Over 300 delegates from more than 50 international insurance institutions and over 100 Chinese insurance organizations gathered at the meeting to discuss the demand and development of re-insurance in China.

Major topics during the two-day symposium included the present situation in China's insurance market, China's accession into the World Trade Organization (WTO), and other issues involving international brokers and the re-insurance market.

The symposium is jointly sponsored by the Shanghai Insurance Association, Shanghai Insurance Institute, Singapore Re-insurance Corp. and Asia Insurance Review.

It is expected that the symposium will help China prepare for entry into WTO and accelerate its steps towards opening the insurance market, according to the organizers.
