China to Promote Community Health Service

The School of Public Health and Community Medical Sciences was established in the China Capital University of Medicine Friday, December 1.

As the first general medicine training center under the supervision of the Ministry of Health, it will combine prophylaxis with general medicine, aiming to meet the increasing needs of the community health service.

Community health services emerged in the world in the 1960s and 1970s and prophylaxis efforts was since shifted to individuals from the public health service.

General medicine appeared in the 1960s, aiming to combine prophylaxis, treatment, recovery and health care of both individuals and the community.

So far, over 50 countries have established national general medicine academic organizations and training programs for practitioners.

The University set up its own general medicine training center in 1989, providing academic courses for college students and on-the-job training courses for adults and general practitioners.
