Nanning to Complete Express Beltway in 2002

Work has started on the northern section of the express beltway in Nanning, capital of southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Construciton of all sections of the beltway will have begun by the end of this year. The entire road is expected to open to traffic at the end of 2002.

The 40-km, six-lane beltway will be built at a total investment of nearly three billion yuan (US$360 million). The north section 13.61 km long and 60 m wide will allow motor vehicles to run at a maximum speed of 80 km per hour.

The Nanning Urban Constrction Investment Corporation has recently obtained a one-billion-yuan (US$120 million) loan from the State Development Bank for construction of the beltway. This is the largest loan that Nanning City has ever received.
