Mexico's President Elect Meets Head of Chinese DelegationMexico's president-elect Vicente Fox met Thursday, November 30, with visiting Chinese Minister of Science and Technology Zhu Lilan, who is the special envoy of Chinese President Jiang Zemin.Zhu Lilan arrived on Wednesday at Mexico's capital. She led a Chinese delegation attending Friday's inauguration of Fox. She extended cordial greetings and good will congratulations to Fox from Jiang and Chinese Prime Minister Zhu Rongji. At a meeting that took place in a hotel in Mexico's capital, Zhu Lilan delivered a letter to Fox signed by Jiang that invited the new president to visit China. Zhu Lilan said the Chinese government attaches great importance to the development of China-Mexico ties. Zhu said it is in the best interests of both nations to strengthen friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation in this new century. Zhu added that China is willing to reinforce dialogue and exchanges with Mexico in order to learn from each other, coordinate both countries' positions and strengthen bilateral cooperation. She indicated that both nations' zeal and cooperative relations will develop toward an even higher level and that their prospects will be better in the 21st century. Fox said that Mexico's new government will also attend to the growth of relations between Mexico and China and that he will firmly assert himself to strengthen bilateral cooperation. Fox will assume Mexico's presidency Friday. He said that his government would make a great effort to expand exchanges between the two countries in investment, trade, science and technology. |
