Shanghai Asian Music Festival Closes

The week-long 2000 Shanghai Asian Music Festival closed Thursday with a vocal concert in support of anti-pirating.

Pop singers from China, Denmark, the Republic of Korea and other countries and regions gave performances Thursday night.

A 100-meter-long banner was displayed during the concert with countless signatures collected from local officials and pop singers calling for intellectual property rights protection.

Over 300 musicians from 25 Asian countries participated in the festival.

The annual event, which was first launched in 1991, was designed to discover talented new singers and to boost the music market in Asia.

During the one-week festival, a number of competitions and seminars were held, including the "Asian fresh singers' competition," "youth singing group competition" and the "Asianmusic development seminar in the Internet era."
