Reception Held to Celebrate Sino-Chilean Ties

A reception was held December 1 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Chile.

The reception was hosted by Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and its vice-president, Li Xiaolin, addressed the occasion.

She said that Chile is the first South American country to forge diplomatic ties with the People's Republic of China (PRC). The two countries have worked together in the areas of politics, economics, trade and culture, and officials visit each others country often.

China and Chile have also maintained close contacts in international affairs and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries have increased, she added.

She voiced the belief that Sino-Chilean cooperation and the friendship between the two countries and peoples will be further promoted.

Jorge Tarud, Chilean ambassador to China, said that Chile is proud of the fact that it was the first South African country to recognize the PRC, and Sino-Chilean friendship has been strengthened through bilateral cooperation in the areas of politics, economics, trade, law and culture.
