2nd Inter-Korean Working-Level Military Talks to Open

The second inter-Korean working-level military meeting will be held in the truce village of Panmunjom next Tuesday, December 5, for the reconstruction of inter-Korean railway and highway in the Demilitarized Zone.

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) told the South Korea by phone that it has accepted Seoul's proposal to open the second meeting next Tuesday, the defense ministry said Friday, December 1.

The meeting will begin 10 a.m. next Tuesday at the Peace House in Panmunjom on the Southern side.

The delegations from the two sides are expected to focus their talks on the establishment of regulations aimed at preventing scuffles between South Korean and DPRK troops, administrators or workers in the course of the reconstruction.

They will also discuss the range of the common control area and finalize the itinerary for the second inter-Korean defense ministerial talks, which, as agreed, will be held in the DPRK.

Seoul and Pyongyang held their first inter-Korean ministers' meeting in South Korea on September 25-26 and at the meeting, the two sides agreed to hold the second in Pyongyang this month.

At the first meeting last Tuesday at the Tongilgak pavilion nder the control of the DPRK, the two sides exchanged outlines for the removal of land mines in the Demilitarized Zone as well as specific construction plans for the project of reconnecting the severed railway line from Seoul to Shuinjiu and build a new highway to run parallel to the line.

More Inter-Korean Military Talks

South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) agreed November 28 to more military-level talks for reconstruction of inter-Korean railway and highway in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).

The agreement was reached at the first round of inter-Korean working level military talks which was held in the truce village of Panmunjom Tuesday afternoon, according to South Korean Defense Ministry spokesman Yoon Il-young.
