China Succeeded in First Thumb Allosome Transplanting

The No.1 Subsidiary Hospital of Guangxi Medical University is reported recently to have succeeded in a right hand thumb allosome transplant and a left arm transplanting operation. The patient Mr. Lei became the first person receiving a thumb allosome transplanting operation in the world.

Doctors told that the patients are well looked after and are in stable condition in the hospital.

Zhao Jinmin, who took charge of the operation, said that hand allosome transplant is a multi-germinal layer and multi-tissue cell transplanting operation, which poses more difficulties in technique for it is prone to have greater excluding response than liver, kidney, heart, or lung transplants.
