Shanghai Lupu Bridge Hammered into Shape in Design
China has completed the design of its Shanghai Lupu Bridge, which will be like a big bow bent over the great Huangpu River. In a unique structure comparing well to other two new bridges Nanpu and Yangpu erected in Shanghai in the 1990s, it is to be built to become world's first of its kind and Shanghai's another symbol.
A new municipal project in token of Shanghai, Lupu Bridge has its blueprint jointly to the name of Shanghai City Planning Project Design Institute and Shanghai City Construction Design Institute. Lin Yuanpei, chief architect of the bridge, told that since there are three stayed-cable bridges having been thrown up on the Huangpu River Shanghai's architects had early had many a different bridge structures screened out and at long last had the structure of archery adopted.
Lin told that Lupu Bridge is to be built with a span of 550m to dwarf all known arched bridges including the one with a span of 518m in the US. He also voiced his confidence that his builders will make the bridge's construction a complete success since they have had the expertise and experiences to have already had three large stayed-cable bridges built in Shanghai.
