Guangdong to Invest 65.9 Bn Yuan in Water Control
It's reported that during the "10th Five-year Plan" period, Guangdong Province will devote its efforts to establishing three major security systems suited to sustainable economic development, perfect facilities for disaster prevention and reduction, quantity- and quality-guaranteed water supply, and building a balanced water-conservancy ecological environment.
Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, Guangdong has already invested 50 billion yuan in the construction of a water conservancy system and has formed a total fixed asset value of 40 billion yuan. And yet, the threat of windstorms, waterlog and drought still hinders Guangdong's economic development; the problems of water safety, water environment and water crisis arising from a combination of excessive, scarce, muddy and filthy water have developed to the number one "chronic disease" restricting Guangdong's economy.
To solve these problems, Guangdong has decided to direct its main efforts to the establishment of three major security systems for disaster prevention and reduction, water supply and water ecological environment during the "10th Five-year Plan" period. It has also planned to raise 65.9 billion yuan by a multi-channel, multi-level and multi-link method, so as to guarantee implementation of the above-mentioned plan..
