Shanghai's II Output Value Accounts for 7% of GDP

Currently, Shanghai's information product manufacturing industry is an industry of fastest growth in the city's industrial department.

In the first three years of the "Ninth Five-year Plan" period, the average annual growth rate of its gross output value was 39 percent; that of its income from sales of software was over 50 percent; information service industry also experienced rapid development with business volume reaching 12.2 billion yuan last year.

The proportion of the output value of the city's information industry (II) to the GDP is expected to reach 7 percent this year.

In order to encourage the development of software industry and integrated circuit industry, Shanghai is drafting a software enterprise recognition system, under which approved enterprises can enjoy national as well as Shanghai's local preferential polices. The specific provisions of these policies will soon be published.

Pillar Industry in Shanghai

Shanghai industry realized a profit of 25.9 billion yuan from January to September, equaling the total of last year, among which 20% or more than 5 billion yuan is contributed by information industry. The information industry popped up to be the first pillar industry of Shanghai.

The gross output of Shanghai information industry from January to September values 77.9 billion yuan, accounting for 10% of the total. The former percentage in 1995 was 5.9%. For the first time in history that information industry took the first chair of Shanghai industry, surpassing the traditional pillar industries like auto, petrochemical and steel.
