Japanese Non-Governmental Group Visits DPRK

A non-governmental Japanese group led by former prime minister Tomiichi Murayama is in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) for a visit, according to Korean Central News Agency.

Murayama is chairman of the newly founded National Council for the Promotion of Diplomatic Ties between Japan and the DPRK.

During his five-day stay in the DPRK, Murayama is expected to hold talks with Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of DPRK's Supreme People's Assembly, and other officials.

The two governments have been engaged in negotiations for the normalization of diplomatic relations.

The Japanese delegation arrived in Pyongyang on Thursday, November 30. This is the first visit of the council, which was established in July.
