AIDS Centers Pioneer Treatment

China has already set up six centers engaged in the treatment of AIDS, according to Cao Yunzhen, deputy director of the National Center for AIDS Prevention and Control.

These six centers are located in Beijing, Shanghai, Kunming in southwest Yunnan Province, Guangzhou in south Guangdong Province, Zhengzhou in central Henan Province and Urumqi in northwest Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

They were established after local doctors received formal training in the treatment of AIDS from the Division of Clinical Virology based in Beijing.

Doctors in the six centers are treating AIDS patients with a unique combination of several drugs, and their method has proved effective in curbing HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.

About 100 HIV carriers are currently receiving treatment at the centers, Cao was quoted as saying by the newspaper on the eve of World AIDS Day, which falls on Friday, December 1.
