International Advisers Outline Business Prospects of HKThe third Meeting of the Chief Executive's Council of International Advisers was held November 30 in Hong Kong.Tung Chee Hwa, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), exchanged views with a group of distinguished business and corporate leaders on the international economic outlook and business prospects in the region on the occasion. Speaking after the meeting, Tung said that the council members had an extremely useful and constructive exchange of views and the advisers were also briefed on latest developments in Hong Kong. International advisers consider that Hong Kong's Gross Domestic Product growth in 2000 will exceed that of most economies around the region. A significant part of this growth has been export-led. They welcome the liberalization measures which Hong Kong has taken to open up the telecommunication market and the international competition in telecommunications and IT will remain keen. The advisers believe that it is essential for Hong Kong to continue to liberalize the market to achieve the status of a regional hub. Tung said, "it was very helpful to Hong Kong to have the most up-to-date assessment of the economic prospects in Hong Kong's major overseas markets and advice on how we could maintain Hong Kong's competitiveness."
