Microelectronic Base to Be Launched in Capital Iron & Steel Group

North China's largest information industry base, microelectronic base of China Capital Iron and Steel Group will be under construction by the year end, and the base is expected to be equipped with 20 production lines, forming a monthly production scale of 50,000 chips by the year 2010.

Setting up a microelectronic base is the main orientation of the Capital Iron and Steel Group and a strategic decision to tap for information industry. Early as in 1994, the group had formed a tie of cooperation with the Japanese NEC by setting up two production lines for making chips and the subsequent process of sealing up which were gradually upgraded to a level of producing six-inch chip of 0.35 micrometer. This has proven to be a new booming point in the operation of the Group. The installation of another two lines for eight inches 0.25 micrometer chips were brought under way early this year. The two production lines with an investment of 10 billion yuan can be put to use by 2002.
