Central Economic Working Conference on Party's Leadership
The Central Economic Working Conference, which closed in Beijing November 30, stressed that the leadership of Communist Party of China (CPC) in the area of economic work should be strengthened and improved.
The conference called on Party officials at various levels to improve their management skills and try to grasp economic development trend under new conditions.
Officials should have the necessary knowledge on market economy and on science and technology, stressed the conference, adding that they should also improve their capability in management in line with law and international practice.
They should also promote study of major relationships in economic development.
Maintaining of social stability should always be high on the agenda, said the conference, noting that stability is the precondition of fulfilling the targets set for the next year and the Tenth Five-Year (2001-2005) Plan period.
Deepening economic reforms and restructuring economy will inevitably cause the readjustment of interests of various sectors, said the conference, calling on officials at various levels to go deep into the grassroot units, to share in the happiness and woe of the masses and solve problems for them.
Comprehensive management on public security should be enhanced to ensure people's life and work in peace and contentment.
The conference also called for a down-to-earth work style. Since the targets for the next five years and the next year have been set, the key job is to fulfill them, the conference noted.
It pointed out that bureaucracy and pharisaism are harmful, calling on departments and governments at various levels to find and solve main problems and change their working style for new progress.
