China Tightens Check of Drug AdvertisementsAdvertisements for pharmaceutical products now have to go through rigid inspection by the pharmaceutical authority, and must strictly follow State laws and regulations.Violators of the Law on Pharmaceutical Administration and the Advertisement Law and other related regulations will be punished accordingly. The SDA reiterated that all advertisement for medicines, in whatever form, must have permission from the pharmaceutical authorities above the provincial level. The SDA will allow medicine advertisements to be published in 16 major newspapers and broadcast on radio and TV stations, such as China Central Television. Once approved, the content of the advertisements, the medicine's packaging and directions for use must not be changed. But no advertisements are allowed for medicines that treat cancers, HIV/AIDS or claim to improve sexual ability, according to the law. The administration also prohibited advertisements for pharmaceutical products that are still in experimental stages or have been officially banned from production, sale and use by national or provincial level drug administrations.
