Cross-strait Trade Chalks up Growth for 12 Months Running

The figures of cross-Strait trade in this past third quarter published recently by the Taiwan economic department, Taiwan's total volume of trade with the mainland reached US$24.071 billion, a 30 percent increase over the past year, registering a two-digit growth for 12 months on end.

Because of the continuous Taiwan investment in the mainland, the amount of investment has continued to expand. Under the effect of investment boosting export, cross-Strait trade has undergone sustained growth. Statistics from a relevant department of Taiwan show that the Island's exports to the mainland in the first three quarters amounted to US$19.448 billion, rising by 28.2 percent over the last year and accounting for about 17.7 percent of Taiwan's total volume of export.

Besides, the volume of Taiwan's import from the mainland in the first three quarters was US$4.623 billion, an enormous 45 percent rise over last year, representing 4.4 percent of the province's total imports.
