Jordanian Airline to Resume Commercial Flights to Iraq

Royal Jordanian, Jordan's national airline, said it would resume commercial flights between Amman and Baghdad from Thursday, November 30, if approved by the United Nations.

This would be the first commercial flight to and from Iraq since international sanctions were imposed on Iraq following its 1990 invasion of Kuwait.

The company has already started selling tickets for the first commercial flight from the Jordanian capital to the Iraqi capital.

Company sources said that the flight will be organized every Thursday.

In September, Jordan officially requested the UN permission to resume commercial flights between Amman and Baghdad, but the UN has yet to make its response.

Jordanian Prime Minister Ali Abu Ragheb said after his visit to Baghdad earlier this month that he hoped a scheduled air route will be operated soon between the two capitals.

Baghdad has already asked Amman to reopen its airspace for aircraft coming from or leaving for Iraq.

Oil Pipeline Linking Two Sides

Jordan and Iraq will boost cooperation in the field of energy by building an oil pipeline linking the two sides, Jordanian Prime Minister Ali Abu Ragheb said Thursday, November 2.

Ragheb said during a meeting with Iraqi President Saddam Hussein that Amman and Baghdad have agreed to build a pipeline for Iraq to export oil to its oil-deficient neighbor, the official Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.
