Guangdong Province Tops Fifty Billion Yuan in Tariff RevenuesCustoms offices in south China's Guangdong province, China's economic power house, collected 35 percent more tariffs in the first ten months of this year than in the same period in 1999.During that period tariff revenues amounted to 52.7 billion yuan (about US$6.35 billion), meeting the annual target two months ahead of schedule. The figure accounts for nearly 30 percent of the nations total. Of the figure, 18.78 billion yuan was handed over to the state treasury, a rise of 28 percent, and 33.95 billion yuan was paid in the import link tax, an increase of 39.5 percent. |
