Fifth Generating Unit at Tiansheng Bridge Station Starts Operation

The fifth generating unit of the Tiansheng Bridge Hydroelectric Power Station began operation recently, producing 5.28 million kilowatt-hours of electricity a day.

The power station, located at the conjuncture of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Yunnan and Guizhou provinces in southwest China, is the first hydropower station to implement China's strategy of transmitting electricity from resource-rich western China to energy-starved coastal areas in the country's eastern areas.

The power station will have six generating units with a combined installed capacity of 1.32 million kilowatts, and it will produce 8.2 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. Since 1992, when the first generating unit was put into operation, the power station has turned out 26.5 billion kilowatt-hous of electricity.

The sixth generating unit is expected to be operational at the end of this year.
