State to Support Medium and Small Hydroelectric Stations
The development of Medium-sized and small hydroelectric stations will receive more support from the state in the coming five years, according to a senior official with China's Ministry of Water Resources recently.
Hydroelectric stations with an installed generating capacity of less than 25,000 kW will be included on the list of regenerable energy producers and will be supported by the government, Vice-Minister Jing Zhengshu said at a nationwide seminar on hydroelectric power-stations here Monday.
Jing defined medium-sized and small hydroelectric stations an important source for clean and regenerable energy.
Currently, over one quarter of the nation's population rely on hydroelectricity, which reached 72.97 million kW last year. However, only 19.3 of the total hydroelectric potential has been tapped despite an annual increase of two million kW of hydroelectricity on average over the past three years.
