On the Way for Establishment of China's Confucius University
At the time when we are going to ring in the new century how to inherit and enhance the fine traditional Chinese culture has become a topic for heated discussions.
Recently, hundreds of experts, scholars and businessmen both at home and from abroad gathered at Shenzhen for the conference "Workshop on Roles and Influences of Confucius & Confucianism Upon Development of World Civilization in 21st Century" and also for the "Exhibition of Creme Chinese Traditional Paintings on Confucius and Confucianism 2000". Decision was made at the conference to set up a Confucius University in China.
In recent years, it has become a common desire of the Chinese people all over the world to run a Confucius University of China, hoping that the brilliant culture of the Chinese nation can spread widely in the world, thereby promoting the cultural exchanges between China and other countries.
To cater to the needs and wishes of all the Chinese people at home and abroad, Confucius University of China is to be set up jointly by Patriotic Project Union of the Chinese Nation, International Confucianism Institution, Central Institute of Science and Education, and Institute of Social Science of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
The said university, integrating cultivation of talented people, doing scientific researches and offering social services into one is to be run by civilians. Experts and specialists of all fields will gather together here giving lectures and doing researches so as to bring traditional Chinese culture forward to the peoples of the whole world.
As prospected, the university consists approximately of 16 schools, including Confucianism, history and culture, Law and life-science as well as finance etc.
Xu Jialu, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People's Congress, is, as learned, invited to be the president of the university and Ji Xianlin, the noted professor the adviser.
