National Dance Contest Begins

The 10th National Dance Contest began Tuesday evening in Taizhou of Zhejiang Province, east China.

According to contest organizers, more than 35 teams consisting of 3,200 dancers from across the country are participating in the contest, which has the promise to be a great event for dance-lovers at the turn of the century.

Dancers are expected to present 212 programs to compete for prizes. The programs cover three categories, namely, stage dance, dances by the elderly and square dancing. The later two include 22 programs respectively.

As for the stage dance, there are 135 group dances, 11 solo-dance programs, 13 dances involving couples and six dances involving three people will be performed.

The contest, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, aims to promote recreational activities for the general public.
