Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma Reaffirms One China Policy

Ukraine will unswervingly adhere to its one China policy and never establish any sort of official ties with Taiwan, Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma said November 28.

Ukraine's position on this issue will never be changed, Kuchma said when meeting with new Chinese ambassador to Ukraine, Li Guobang, who was presenting his credentials.

Speaking highly of the great achievements China has made in the process of reform and opening up, Kuchma said his country is willing to develop friendly cooperation with China in political, economical, cultural and other areas.

He also stressed that Ukraine is ready to strengthen cooperation with China in international organizations, including the United Nations.

Li said that the Chinese government attaches great importance to the development of friendship and cooperation with Ukraine and he will make great efforts to promote the further development of bilateral ties.
