HK Launches Online Education ProjectA new culture that promotes ideas sharing, views exchanging and collaboration on line will appear within the education sector, Hong Kong's Secretary for Education and Manpower Fanny Law said on November 28.Speaking at the launching ceremony of the HKeducationCITY.net project, Law said the project would further improve the utilization of HK's education resources, foster better knowledge sharing and act as a catalyst to other value-added services such as online training tools. HKeducationCity.net, an online resource center for the use of Hong Kong's education sector, is jointly planned and developed by the Education Department and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. As one of the world's largest infrastructures and collaborating platforms for education, the project is a milestone in local education development because it paved the way for the local education sector to enter into the Internet era, said Wong Po-choi, Project Director of HKeducationCITY.net. The Hong Kong Education City is an advanced communication platform using e-mail and other advanced collaborating features for knowledge management and sharing. Schools and institutions would be able to make use of the "city" to offer and exchange information on education resources, software and services, Wong said. Chief Project Officer Ma Siu-leung said the "city" would be the world's first education TV channel on the web, with all ETV programs produced by RTHK being available for retrieval. Also present at Tuesday's launching ceremony was Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Tung Chee-hwa; Director of Education Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, Chairman of the Quality Education Fund Steering Committee Irving Koo Yee-yin, and Director of Broadcasting Chu Pui-hing. |
