Retired Officers Oppose Taiwan IndependenceA group of 16 retired senior military officers from Taiwan released a proclamation November 28 in Macao voicing their resolution to oppose Taiwan independence and promote cross-Straits reunification.In the proclamation, issued at a seminar, the retired officers noted that Taiwan has been part of China since ancient times and called on all officers and soldiers in Taiwan to exert concerted efforts to oppose the independence of Taiwan and contribute to the peaceful reunification of the two sides of the Taiwan Straits. "Being Taiwanese, we are also Chinese. We will work together with all Chinese people around the world to resolutely fight against Taiwan independence and promote the early realization of reunification of the motherland," the proclamation said. The retired officers will pay visit to Shenzhen, Dongguan and Zhuhai cities of the mainland areas of China in the coming days. |
