Gezhouba Project Yields 2,000-Billion-Yuan Socioeconomic Benefits

The first large key water-conservancy project-the Gezhouba Water-conservancy Project on the mainstream of the Yangtze River, celebrated its 20th anniversary of its launch into operation on November 27.

During the period, the Gezhouba Power Plant has generated a total of 246 billion kwh of electricity, yielding socioeconomic benefits of nearly 2,000 billion yuan.

The Gezhouba project is a large hydropower station designed, built and managed by China itself. Its gross amount of electricity generated in the past 20 years is 57 times the total generated nationwide at the time of the founding of New China.

While easing energy shortages in the central and east regions of China, it has turned over 8 billion yuan of taxes to the State, achieving tremendous social and economic efficiencies.
