Central Government to Recruit 4,500 Civil Servants

A national examination will soon be held to recruit 4,500 civil servants for the Chinese central Party and government departments, the Organization Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Ministry of Personnel announced November 27.

One thousand civil servants will fill vacancies in 77 central Party and government departments, of which 80 percent are reserved for new college graduates.

The remaining 3,500 civil servants will work for branch offices of the central Party and government departments or other institutions under the central government, of which 3,300 will be college graduates.

The recruitment of civil servants through public examination was first initiated in 1989 in China, and made compulsory in 1996 for the central Party and government departments.

More People Take Qualification Exams for Civil Service

Nearly 4,400 ordinary Chinese citizens have been recruited as civil servants after taking open qualification exams since 1996.

This represents a major step forward in reforming China's recruitment system, according to officials.
