DPRK Patrol Boats Intrude S.Korean WatersPatrol boats of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) have so far violated South Korean waters 12 times this year, the South Korean Defense Ministry said Tuesday, November 28.According to a Defense Ministry spokesman, casual intrusions by DPRK patrol boats also took place from time to time, though South Korean officers usually dismissed violations of less than half a mile (1.6 kilometers). He said that the ministry will punish officers who fail to report DPRK vessel intrusions. "North Korea Central Broadcasting repeatedly claimed that our patrol boats had violated North Korean waters. So we mistakenly focused on casual intrusions by our fishing boats into North Korean territory rather than on North Korean intrusions into our territory," said the spokesman. He added that DPRK patrol boats intruded South Korean waters by trespassing the Northern Limit Line 120 times last year.
