KMT Vice-Chairman, Former DPP Chairman Stop Over in Shenzhen
Wu Po-hsiung, vice-chairman of the Kuomintang (KMT), his wife, and Xu Xinliang, former chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), made a a short visit November 28 to Shenzhen, China's first special economic zone, before departing for home.
Li Decheng, a deputy secretary of the municipal committee of the Communist Party of China, held a reception for the visitors, on behalf of Secretary Zhang Gaoli.
Li, who is honorary chairman of Shenzhen's Taiwan Chamber of Commerce, told the visitors that there are in Shenzhen more than 3,000 Taiwan-funded companies with a total investment of US$3.4 billion from Taiwan, employing over 500,000 local workers.
He said the economic ties between Shenzhen and Taiwan are becoming increasingly closer.
The visitors, who are part of a 32-member delegation, are in the mainland to attend a meeting of the descendants of the Hakka people, held in Longyan of Fujian Province in the eastern China coast.
The Taiwan delegation left for home via Shenzhen's Huanggang Customs at 6:00 pm.
