Namibian President Arrives in DPRK for Visit

Namibian President Sam Nujoma arrived in Pyongyang November 28 for a three-day goodwill visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) at the invitation of Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly.

Nujoma was accompanied by Defense Minster Erikki Nghimtina and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Information and Broadcasting Tuliameni Kalomoh.

Nujoma and his delegation were greeted by Kim Yong Nam, Kim Il Chol, minister of the People's Armed Forces, and Foreign Minister Pae Nam Sun.

A grand ceremony was held at the airport to welcome the Namibian president, who, accompanied by Kim Yong Nam, reviewed a guard of honor of the three services of the Korean People's Army.

The official newspaper Rongdong Sinmun on Tuesday hailed Nujoma's visit, the first by an African leader in recent years, as a landmark event in the DPRK-Namibia relationship, saying it heralds a new stage for the friendship between the two countries.
