China's Higher Education Undergoes Rapid Development

Chinese Vice Education Minister Wei Yu said in Beijing Monday that 11 percent of the countries' young people aged between 18 and 22 had access to colleges this year, and the rate will increase in the coming five to ten years.

Wei Yu made the remark at the "International Seminar on Higher Education Policies", co-sponsored by the Ministry of Education and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

She said that the Chinese government has made important strategic decisions, including the implementation of revitalizing the nation with science and education, development of basic education and the advancement of higher education.

She also said that reforms will be made to change the current situation of "higher education for elite people," and provide more opportunities for people to receive higher education.

The theme of the seminar is choosing public policy during higher education for most people. Presidents from renowned universities, educational officials and experts will hold discussions during the three-day seminar.
