Israeli Foreign Minister to Visit Russia

Israeli Foreign Minister Shlomo Ben Ami will visit Moscow on Wednesday, after previous delays, a spokesman for the Israeli embassy to Russia announced Monday, November 27.

During his stay, Ben Ami will meet his Russian counterpart Igor Ivanov, said the spokesman.

The minister's Moscow trip was originally scheduled for late Monday but was delayed because of Tuesday's parliamentary vote on confidence in the government.

The postponement gave Israel time to ponder Russia's proposals on the Middle East settlement, which were initiated during last week's meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat in the Kremlin.

The minister's visit here was announced after Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak spoke with Arafat over the phone last Friday.
