Israeli, Palestinian Security Officials Meet in CairoIsrael's Secret Service (Shin Bet) chief Avraham Dichter held talks in Cairo on November 26 with Mohammed Dahlan, Palestinian Preventative Security chief in Gaza Strip, in an effort to revive security coordination between the two sides. The Shin Bet chief flew to Cairo with Prime Minister Ehud Barak's senior advisor Danny Yatom, who met with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Israel Radio reported Monday. The radio did not give details of the Sunday meeting, only saying that Dichter discussed with Dahlan issues concerning the security cooperation between the two sides in order to bring an early end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. During his meeting with Yatom, Mubarak asked Israel to undertake confidence-building measures to reduce the difficulties experienced by the Palestinians. Yatom told Mubarak that Israel would like to see Egypt continue to play a role in the peace process. Mubarak recalled his ambassador from Israel last Tuesday, citing Israel's escalation of military operations against Palestinians, including the air strikes on Gaza Strip last Monday. In another development, Major General Yitzhak Eitan, the Central Commander of the Israel Defense Force (IDF), met Sunday afternoon with Haj Ismail, the commander of the Palestinian Preventative forces in the West Bank, to discuss ways of easing tensions and reducing shooting incidents. The meeting was connected to the talks held Saturday between Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and Minister of Tourism Ammon Lipkin-Shahak in Gaza.
