Guilin Hosts International Symposium on Ming Dynasty Vases

An international symposium on vases from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) will be held in Guilin City, one of China's most popular tourist destinations, from November 28 through December 1.

An official with the organizing committee said that preparations have been completed for the event, which is expected to draw some 200 domestic and overseas scholars and specialists.

According to the official, the committee has already received more than 110 papers on the vases.

During the symposium, an exhibition of 300 selected vases excavated in 1997, which date back to the Ming Dynasty, will also be held, along with the publication of a picture album, a stamp collection, a collection of academic papers, shooting of a TV documentary, as well as marketing of imitated vases.

The vases to be exhibited include 250 pieces of porcelain and 50 pieces of earthenware, which, according to experts, were made in Jingdezhen in east China's Jiangxi Province, from throughout of the Ming Dynasty. The vases, which are under the state's top protection, feature more than 30 designs.
