Shanghai CPC Chief Meets KMT Leader From TaiwanHuang Ju, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met November 26 with Wu Po-hsiung, vice-chairman of the Kuomintang (KMT), who came to Shanghai from Taiwan on a visit.Huang, who is also secretary of the CPC Shanghai municipal committee, welcomed the Taiwan KMT official to Shanghai. Huang briefed the visitor on the development of the city and urged for further exchanges and cooperation between Shanghai and Taiwan in the fields of economy and trade, science and technology and culture. Wu admired Shanghai's progress and development. He told the host that he was mayor of Taipei 12 years ago and knows of the difficulties in administrative management of urban affairs. The mainstream public opinions in Taiwan are not in favor of "Taiwan independence" and will not let the concept of "Taiwan independence" gain full swing, Wu said. Wu arrived in Shanghai after attending the 16th Hakka Descendants' Meeting, held in Longyan City in east China's Fujian Province, and visiting Beijing and Nanjing. During his stay in the town, Wu is scheduled to visit the old house of Sun Yet-sun as well as the New Pudong District and downtown areas.
