The 183.5-km expressway, between Xuanhua city in north China's Hebei province and Datong city in north China's Shanxi province, is designed to meet the local transport demands of heavy cargo vehicles and is considered a northern shortcut for Western-Eastern economic exchange.

The first section of the expressway in Shanxi province was opened for use in September this year.

The 125-km four lane section in Hebei province has cost a total of 2.6 billion yuan and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
