Personal Computer Sales to Reach 6 Million Units

China's booming personal computer market is set to sell a record 6 million plus units this year with high sales growth reported during the first three quarters, an official report said recently.

In the period from July to September more than 2.53 million units of PCs (including desktops, notebooks and servers) were sold on the domestic market, almost matching the 2.8 million units sold in the first six months of the year, latest market statistics showed.

"The following fourth quarter will keep the growth trend which will make the full year sales top 6.2 million," says Wang Lintong, a senior official with China Computer Industry Association.

Director general of Ministry of Information Industry's (MII) electronics and information technology products department, Zhang Qi, said earlier this year that China's PC market is expected to grow about 20 per cent year on year to reach $24.76 billion.

In accordance with the impressive growth of domestic PC sales, computer exports reported an over 600 per cent growth in the first half year, according to MII statistics.
