Northeast China Airport Resumes Service

Taoxian International Airport in Shenyang, an important industrial center in northeast China, was reopened to service Sunday morning after being closed for 19 hours because of heavy snow.

Airport sources said that starting from nine o'clock Sunday morning, planes landed at or took off from the airport. Passengers who were stranded at the airport Saturday were all arranged to continue their trips Sunday.

Heavy snow forced the Taoxian International Airport to be closed at 2 pm Saturday. More than 30 flights, including one to the Republic of Korea, and one to Japan, have been canceled due to the bad weather.

The bad weather began with drizzle before heavy snow on Saturday, resulting in the dropping of temperature in the city below zero. Ice on the runway made it impossible for any plane to take off from or land at the airport.

It is the second time this year that the airport has been forced to stop operation because of bad weather.
