Chinese Premier Leaves Singapore for Beijing

Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji left Singapore for Beijing Sunday morning after attending the summit between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and China, Japan and South Korea (10 + 3), and the summit between ASEAN and China (10 + 1).

Singapore Minister for Home Affairs Wong Kan Seng, Singapore Ambassador to China Chin Siat Yoon and Chinese Ambassador Zhang Jiuhuan were among those seeing Zhu and his party off at the airport.

At the summits, Zhu stated in a comprehensive way China's views on the prospect and the current state of East Asia cooperation, and made specific and constructive suggestions on ways to further advance mutually beneficial cooperation within East Asia and also within the framework of 10 + 3 and 10 + 1.

Zhu, who arrived here on November 23, also held an informal breakfast meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori and South Korean President Kim Dae Jung. The three leaders reached many common views on promoting their cooperation as well as their cooperation with ASEAN.

The Chinese premier also held bilateral meetings with leaders from several ASEAN countries, including Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia.

At a press conference on Saturday, Wang Yi, assistant foreign minister of China, described the ASEAN meetings as "practical and friendly".

During the meetings, Wang said, the leaders had in-depth discussions on the future and orientation of East Asia cooperation as well as ways to conduct mutually beneficial cooperation within the framework of 10 + 3 and 10 +1.

"They offered many good ideas and reached consensus," Wang said, adding that the meetings would have a very positive impact on future cooperation within the 10+3 and 10+1 framework.

Premier Arrives in Singapore for ASEAN Summit

Premier Zhu Rongji arrived in Singapore November 23 to attend summit meetings between ASEAN and China, Japan and South Korea, and between ASEAN and China.

The Chinese premier was met at the Changi International Airport by Singapore Minister for Home Affairs Wong Kan Seng, Singapore Ambassador to China Chin Siat Yoon and other senior government officials.
