Premier Zhu Rongji Meets Lee Kuan Yew
Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji, who is in Singapore for the summits between ASEAN and China, Japan and South Korea, met with Singaporean Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew in Singapore November 25.

During their cordial and friendly talks at the Mandarin Singapore hotel where the premier is staying, Zhu expressed his satisfaction with the rapid progress of Sino-Singaporean relations during the past 10 years since the two countries forged diplomatic ties in 1990.

The Chinese premier also thanked Lee for the long time efforts he made to promote the friendly and mutually beneficial relationship between China and Singapore.

Zhu briefed Lee on the good economic situation China has been enjoying since the beginning of this year, as Lee showed interest in the matter.

On the question of Taiwan, Lee said that the Taiwan authorities should go back to the consensus on one China reached by both sides of the Taiwan Straits in 1992, while Zhu expounded the principled stance of the Chinese Mainland on the question of Taiwan.

Premier Zhu Meets Lee Kuan Yew in Beijing

Premier Zhu Rongji, in a meeting with Singaporean Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew June 13 in Beijing said that China's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO) is necessary for speeding up the country's reform and opening-up drive.

It will also be conducive to promoting the global trade as well as China's economic and trade cooperation with other Asian countries, he said.
