Construction on West Zhongguancun Initiated
Construction of two trunk roads in the west district of Zhongguancun High-Tech Development Zone started November 25, marking the beginning of new-phase development in the district.
The 1,500-meter south and north roads of the district will join with the existing Baiyi and northern Fourth Ring roads when the project is completed in April next year, to offer better traffic conditions for the development of the high-tech zone, known as China's silicon valley.
The 51-hectare west district of the Zhongguancun High-Tech Development Zone will be built as a business center in three years for high-tech management, information exchange, research and development efforts and capital and sales activities, according to the blueprint made by the local government.
Improving Urban Rail Transportation in Beijing
Beijing will begin construction of its first light railway this month, a key measure taken by the Chinese capital to ease already burdened ground transportation and to promote economic development of the Zhongguancun area, known as China's "Silicon Valley".
The light railway will allow residents living in the northern suburbs of Beijing to travel with greater convenience as the new line will be connected with the subway loop in the downtown area.
