East China Province to Build More Expressways

East China's Shandong Province, one of the country's economic powerhouses, plans to build more than 1,000 kilometers of expressway over the next five years.

An official with the Shandong provincial government said this will bring the province's total length of expressway to more than 3,000 kilometers.

By then, the official said, all the major cities in Shandong will have been linked up by expressways.

Over the past three years, the province has spent over 40 billion yuan on building expressways. About 2,000 kilometers of expressway in the province had been put into use by October.

These expressways, which are all of good quality, have formed a criss-crossing network with the provincial capital of Jinan at the center.
