Internet Portals Propose AssociationRepresentatives from 27 Chinese regional Internet portals signed a written proposalSaturday, calling for the establishment of a national association. The proposed China National Internet Portals' Association may help standardize and promote cooperation and exchanges among regional Internet portals. The association may play an effective role in making Internet portals better serve the local economy, the proposal said. The representatives signed the proposal at the First National Forum on the Development of Internet Portals, which opened Thursday and attracted the representatives of about 30 Internet portals. China now has more than 300 regional Internet portals, most of which are attached to local government and telecommunication departments. These portals cover a variety of areas in their respective locations, with users from all over the world.
